Elacin equips field staff, warehouse, and production with reusable shipping boxes
Elacin
Elacin is the leading manufacturer of professional hearing protection that enables communication at any noise level. Sustainability is a key focus for the company, and Elacin has been ISO 14001 certified since 2023. Elacin's sales technicians visit business customers on-site to take ear impressions of their employees for high-quality, custom-made hearing protection. The impressions are collected and sent to the branch in Düsseldorf, and from there to production in Romania. Deliveries also arrive from the headquarters in the Netherlands.
Shipping packaging for intralogistics must meet many requirements.
Since Elacin Germany restructured its logistics processes in 2020, the acoustics expert has been searching for a sustainable shipping alternative. The challenge was that the packaging had to withstand rough handling in logistics in order to protect the delicate imprints. The pragmatic handling is one reason why hardly any boxes were reusable. Due to varying workloads in the field service, different sized packaging is advantageous. A medium-sized quantity was needed without a minimum order quantity. The packaging should be sustainable and the material recyclable. Parcel service providers must accept the shipping packaging without surcharge. In addition, the packaging costs must be reasonable. "Taking an ear impression is a highly skilled craft for acousticians; if the packages are not well protected, the essential component could be damaged during the impression," explains Jeannine Sarwat, responsible for customer service and sustainability issues at Elacin.

Immediate Impact through Cross-Departmental Use
hey circle was immediately widely accepted throughout the company. Elacin uses a total of 320 hey circle reusable shipping boxes: 80 boxes are used in the warehouse and for permanent storage in the sales representatives' car trunks. Another 80 boxes each in sizes S, M, and L are distributed among the sales representatives. Each sales representative also has a basic stock of all sizes (10 boxes per size and 2 XL boxes).
Approximately 50 shipments with S and M boxes are sent monthly; 5-6 shipments per month go out with L boxes. To protect against unauthorized access, the boxes are sealed with an adhesive seal.
Shipping between Germany, Romania, and the Netherlands usually takes place via UPS. Within Germany, Elacin ships via DPD. The parcel service provider DPD has already gained experience with hey circle's reusable shipping solutions through other projects.
